Liver cancer is a serious disease that
develops when abnormal cells grow uncontrollably in the liver. The liver, a vital organ
located in the upper right side of the abdomen, plays a key role in digestion and
detoxification. The most common type of liver cancer is hepatocellular carcinoma, which
begins in the liver’s main cells, called hepatocytes. Other less common types include
hepatoblastoma and intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma.
Often, liver cancer occurs when cancer from other parts of the body spreads (metastasizes)
to the liver. Early detection and treatment are crucial for improving outcomes.
