ERCP
Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP)
ERCP is a specialized medical procedure that combines endoscopy and X-ray imaging to diagnose and treat conditions affecting the bile ducts, pancreas, and gallbladder. It helps identify blockages, stones, strictures, or tumors in the bile or pancreatic ducts.
During the procedure, a flexible endoscope is inserted through the mouth to reach the small intestine, and a contrast dye is injected to visualize the ducts on X-ray. Depending on findings, therapeutic actions like stone removal or stent placement can be performed immediately.
Dr. Akshay Kulkarni, with extensive experience in advanced gastroenterology, ensures patient comfort and safety during ERCP with precise diagnosis and effective management plans.
When is ERCP Needed?
ERCP is performed when certain symptoms or test results suggest bile or pancreatic duct issues.
Jaundice
Yellowing of skin and eyes due to bile duct blockage or liver dysfunction.
Bile Duct Stones
Gallstones that migrate and obstruct bile flow, causing severe pain and infection.
Pancreatitis
Inflammation of the pancreas due to ductal obstruction or bile reflux.
